Ben Carson: If the Bible is Wrong on Gay Marriage, Why Isn’t Wrong on Everything?

August 10, 2014 (AcuteMania.net) – This is a great discussion on gay marriage, and it asks the crucial question: If you don’t think that gay “marriage” is a sin as the Bible clearly states, then why do you believe the rest of the Bible? The question is especially pertinent to ministers who openly promote homosexuality and perform marriage ceremonies for homosexuals.

As noted elsewhere on AcuteMania.net, the Bible is explicit and unequivocal in stating that homosexuality is a grave sin, numerous times. The Gospels also reiterate, the point that goes back to the Book of Genesis, that marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman.

Thus, in Matthew 19:4-6, we read

And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

This marriage relationship is also the model for Christ and his Church, as Ben Carson points out. This can not be taken lightly by anyone who truly believes the Bible.

Is Homosexuality a Sin?

With some churches now embracing and promoting homosexuality, there are going to be people who will claim that homosexuality is not a sin. They will try to deceive Christians and lead them away from God. For Christians in the modern world, it is imperative that they stand resolute and ready to defend their beliefs with a full understanding of the Word of God. To help defend against lies, I have compiled this list of passages from the Bible that address the evil of homosexuality.

The clearest message comes from Leviticus:

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Leviticus 18:22 King James Version)

Then a little further on in Leviticus this is expanded upon:

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. (Leviticus 20:13 King James Version)

In the first book of Corinthians, homosexuality is listed among other sins:

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 King James Version)

In 1 Timothy, a list of crimes, not just sins, puts homosexuality together with murder:

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. (1 Timothy 1:9–11 King James Version)

Nowhere else is the sin of homosexuality and its consequences described more graphically and clearly than in the book of Romans:

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1:26-32 King James Version)

The story of Sodom and Gomorrha is told in detail in the book of Genesis Chapter 19. It is a long passage, which can be summarized by saying that God destroyed the cities because of their immorality and homosexuality. These days, deceivers are trying to tell everyone that the cities were destroyed because of inhospitality, not homosexuality. The book of Jude tells us clearly that sexuality immorality, most notably homosexuality, was their sin:

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. (Jude 1:7-8 King James Version)
