Why Christian Boycotts Could Destroy Angie’s List and Apple

Indiana_flag

Indianapolis, IN, April 3, 2015 (AcuteMania.Net) — After the governor of Indiana, Mike Pence, signed the recent religious freedom bill into law (Religious Freedom Restoration Act, or RFRA for short), gay activists and their sympathizers threatened the state with boycotts and a few companies threatened to pull their business out of the state.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple who recently announced that he is gay, attacked the law furiously; this is not surprising considering that Apple has removed Christian Apps from its App Store in the past. Angie’s List, a local business review website, also threatened to cancel a new expansion in Indiana.

In response, the FRC and the AFA have called for conservatives to boycott Angie’s List and many conservative media outlets have picked up the story. Some people will claim that boycotts do not work, but this one could be particularly devastating.

Angie’s List relies on reviews to create content. This could make the situation for Angie’s List very problematic in Indiana, where they have attacked the state, but also in other conservative states. If people refuse to review services and companies for Angie’s List, the company will no longer have a functional business model.

Likewise, even though Apple has probably angered Christians in the past, this issue is likely to add fuel to the fire. This is something that Christians will not soon forget. Christians may have been unwilling to use economic threats in the past. However, Christians now understand that companies like Apple will extend no such courtesy to them.

Apple and Angie’s List are particularly vulnerable to boycotts because they both rely heavily on their brand. Apple has always charged excessively for its products, and it has been able to do so because of the perceived value of its brand. Once that magic is lost, it is lost forever. Likewise, Angie’s List exists on the belief in the unbiased quality of its reviews. With the company’s bias now revealed, its reviews will lose their magic.

Christian boycotts are particularly bad because Christians are very dedicated people. Their boycotts are not like Elton John’s boycott, which failed within a day. Their good opinion once lost is lost forever, and they will not be back.

At this point, Apple has tons of money and market share. However, its tablet is already losing sales revenue. Its phone has viable, and cheaper, competitors, like the Android and Windows devices. So, the question really comes down to whether Christians are serious about a boycott. If so, oxygen pouring into the competition could give it enough power to defeat Apple at some point in the future.

Even if a boycott does not destroy a company, it can definitely hasten a decline as it is doing with the Firefox browser.

Elton John Surrenders in Gay Boycott, Declares Love of Dolce and Gabbana

colosseum

Rome, March 19, 2015 (AcuteMania.Net) — In case you have not heard, a couple of famous gay guys had a loud, drama-filled feud with another famous gay guy. That sound you hear is the sound of a well-established stereotype being solidly reinforced. Now I don’t want to say that gay men act like women because that would be “sexist” and “homophobic.” So, I’ll just tell you what happened and let their actions speak for themselves.

In an interview with the Italian magazine Panorama, the well-known fashion designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, said “we oppose gay adoptions.” In fact, they said that they oppose gay ‘marriage’ and adoption and that they find in vitro fertilization unnatural. They said that procreation “must be an act of love.”

Dolce said, “You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that’s how it should be.” Gabbana added, “The family is not a fad. In it, there is a supernatural sense of belonging.” Dolce stated, furthermore, that he opposed changing nature to create “children of chemistry, synthetic children, uteri for rent, semen chosen from a catalog.”

All of this outraged the gay singer, Elton John, and he called for a boycott of Dolce and Gabbana’s clothing. How dare someone say something that he doesn’t agree with? With respect to his IVF children, Elton John fumed, “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic.'”

I would hate to reinforce another stereotype about gay men shopping, but after getting everyone on board for his boycott, Elton John was spotted carrying a Dolce and Gabbana bag less than 24 hours later.

When asked for comment, his spokesman said, “Yes he was carrying the bag but he hadn’t been shopping. And it should not detract from their original message or the boycott.” Sure thing, Elton John.

Well, today it seems that all is well with Elton John and he declared that he loved Dolce and Gabbana and that his whole band was wearing it. Perhaps he finally looked up the definition of the word “synthetic” and realized that is wasn’t so much an insult as it was an accurate description.

Stocks Plunge on Limbaugh Pullout

In the fight over Rush Limbaugh’s recent remarks, who is really getting hurt? A number of advertisers have pulled out of Rush Limbaugh’s show in order to teach him a lesson about watching what he says on the air. As the charts below show, they are the ones who are getting a lesson.

Carbonite has been particularly outspoken against Limbaugh, and their stock price has dropped over 10% since they pulled their ads from his show. Several other sponsors have also done so. Of the publicly traded companies that have pulled out, there is a similar pattern; Carbonite, AOL, Citrix, and Select Comfort have all seen serious price drops in the last two days since last friday. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Carbonite dropped from about $9.40 to $8.40:

AOL dropped from about $17.80 to $17.00:

Citrix dropped from about $75.50 to $71.80:

Select Comfort dropped from about $30.00 to $28.80:
