It was September 2, 2005 and George W. Bush was president when the Associated Press used the following headline to describe the recent drop in unemployment to 4.9%: “Unemployment Rate Slumps to 4-Year Low.” Only in the biased, leftist press could an unemployment rate of 4.9% be described as a slump.
In June 2009, with the unemployment rate at 9.5% and rising, liberal media outlets ran countless stories about the end of the recession. The source for that unfounded optimism was the liberal National Bureau of Economic Research, or NBER, whose membership has included Obama’s former economic adviser and the architect of the stimulus, Christina Romer, and the liberal New York Times columnist, Paul Krugman.
